Wednesday in Holy Week

Wednesday

Assist us mercifully with your grace, Lord God of our salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the meditation of those mighty acts by which you have promised us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD.  Psalm 107:43

Today is a good day to ask God for focus.  In a world constantly begging (or manipulating) for our attention, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the multitude of voices.  What’s worth focusing on, thinking about? This prayer asks God to “assist us …[in] the meditation of those mighty acts by which you have promised us life and immortality.” When many devices clamor for our attention, and movies and media preach their own versions of good (or usually not-so-good) news, we focus on the only News that is truly Good (Mark 10:18).  We take time to “think on these things”, to intentionally remember, internalize, and even re-enter the Story from which every other story gains meaning. Remove distractions, set aside unimportant tasks, and focus on what has done for you.
